1st Internation Competition “VIOLINO”
It was my great pleasure and honor to serve as a member of the Jury at the 1st International “Violino” competition in Saint Petersburg (Санкт-Петербург), Russia.
Initially planned to be held from October 30 to November 7, 2021, due to the pandemic situation in Piter, how local residents refer to the city by its shortened nickname, the “Violin” competition moved online. Although last minute change to online was a big challenge which asked for big flexibility from the organizing committee, the participants and the jury members as well, it was perfectly mastered from all the sides. The main “engine” behind the competion were the Director of the competition Alexander Tsybul and the Artistic Director Alejandro Drago, who himself served as a jury member as well.
The jury (in no particular order):
Graf Mourja - president
Alexey Lukirskiy
Alejandro Drago
Roman Fedchuk
Lorenzo Turchi-Floris
Robert Bokor
The competition held in three rounds in Junior and Senior categories, offered some of the finest violin playing around. Young talented violinists, presented broad range of repertoire, including the rather unusually mandatory piece in the second round: one of the Piazzolla’s Tango Etudes for violin solo. It was a great pleasure to listen and at the same time a great responsibility to judge fairly and announce prize deserving prize winners.
This is how the jury finally awarded the prizes:
Junior Category:
1. Prize - Pilar Magali Policano
2. Prize (joint awarded) - Varvara Gritsenko & Anastasia Gorodnina
3. Prize - not awarded
Special prize for the Paganini Caprice - Daniil Polikarpov
Senior Category:
1. Prize - Kokoro Imagawa
2. Prize (joint awarded) - Dennis Gasanov & Elina Drukh
3. Prize - Alexey Osipov
Special International Press Award - Dennis Gasanov
Congratulations to all prize prize winners!!
Looking forward to see and listen many young great players at the next “Violino” competition.
